How a waterjet works

Subjected to enormous pressure, water together with the addition of abrasive material is able to cut even a ten-centimeter sheet. It would seem that with such force, it is impossible to precisely mill and work on small elements, but nothing could be further from the truth! The water cutter cuts precisely, regardless of whether you are milling metal, glass or, for example, textiles or rubber. In addition, he works at a very fast pace.

How does a waterjet work?

The device, also known as a waterjet, consists of a pump and a cutter itself, directing the stream to the desired location. The set also includes a work table – usually a bath in which the material to be cut is immersed. The whole is completed with a computer program, thanks to which it is possible to maintain the highest precision of machining.

Where are water cutters used?

Waterjets are used in many industries, from aerospace, shipbuilding and automotive to ornamental, furniture or textile. What is the cause of such a wide range? It results from the unique versatility of the device. Virtually every metal can be processed, both acid-resistant and armored, as well as copper or brass, for example. It is also possible to work on stones, wood, ceramics or glass – you can cut all types of it, except for hardened. Finally, it is also possible to work with delicate materials: even with paper!

Advantages of water cutters

The second great advantage, after universality, is precision. Working with water leaves the edges of the material smooth, so no further processing is necessary. At the same time, the machine, controlled by a computer, cuts very accurately, regardless of the material. This means that waterjet is the best choice when we want the perfect representation of elements – it is important, for example, in industries such as the aircraft industry, where there can be no errors or deviations from the pattern.

We cannot forget about the exceptional speed of the device and the fact that it is safe for the environment – it does not use chemicals and consumes relatively little energy.
